Slavic Mythology: \u010cert \/ Chort \/ Devil<\/strong>\u2800
\n\u2022 The devil is a demonic creature from Slavic folklore. In the Czech environment, he is often a man with horns, a tail and a hoof, sometimes dressed as a hunter in a vest and hat, other times he is dressed in black. He can also appear in the form of an animal, such as a goat or a black dog. A number of local legends are associated with the devil in Czech folklore. I chose the legend of the devil’s oak from them: The man signed the devil because he was poor. The devil was allowed to take him to hell when the leaves of the local oak fell. When, after years, the devil came for his soul one fall, a young farmer took him to a tree. But unlike other deciduous trees, the oak still had some leaves on the branches. The devil came once more in the spring, but when he found that the remnants of the oak leaves were only falling off when they grew new, he disappeared and never showed up again.\u2800<\/p>\n
